There was a debate about how bad the hobbling scene is in Misery in the book versus the film. It’s much worse in the book, where Annie cuts Paul’s foot off with an axe - Misery’s screenwriter William Goldman detailed how he fought for the scene to stay that way in the film (he conceded he was wrong)
