The thing I hated about teaching history was the realization that students rarely learn about linkages and trends over time. Simply pointing out that a lot of the economic crisis of the 70s and 80s was due to other countries finally getting back up to capacity is mind blowing for them.

Real takeaway here is that these are not smart people and things are getting out of hand.

I’m sure plenty of people have said this here already, but just imagine level of media meltdown that would be happening if Obama or Biden said this after deliberating doing something to tank the economy.

This is completely validating my belief that the Obama administration should have prosecuted the hell out of financial industry executives in 2009 and told the pearl clutching business lobbyists and pundits screaming about market confidence and the sanctity of contracts to get bent.
