There's a point in history you can relate to because of some kind of vague personal connection or family story. Farther back than that, it all melds together. Jesus and the Civil War were at about the same time, right? For me it's about 1915, when my grandparents were born

Point taken about complexity, but your count is wrong. Plan designations are not "distinct zones." For instance there is zero zoning difference between "R5 (IC)" and "R5 (IS)" they just have different background plan designations. Look at 33.10.060. www.portland.gov/sites/defaul...
