Betty was cool with the dress but the full Carmen Miranda head gear didn’t stay on long.

New from Daniel Kaplan today:

Stacey Allaster spoke today in Manhattan about how close an ATP-WTA could be, and some lingering US Open topics.

The Trump broadcast request parts, of course, caught my eye.

ATP #11 Holger Rune has a 3-5 record this year against guys outside the Top 100, that’s pretty wild.

One of the items in the latest at Bounces was looking at the contrast between how the comedy green room reacted to lucrative Saudi invitations compared to the flaccid response from tennis locker rooms to the same phenomenon.

Taylor Fritz’s Tokyo celebration, I am told by my resident Fritz whisperer, is a Jujutsu Kaisen domain expansion.

Easily the most exciting usage I’ve ever seen of a photo I’ve taken. 🤩

Wondering if this could be a record:

Has anyone else ever beaten an opponent six times in a row while being ranked below that opponent all six times?

Oh man, RIP Bernie Parent. 🧡

This by @irathethird.bsky.social is the most elucidating paragraph I’ve read so far on the parallel-universeness of Charlie Kirk reactions.

Welcome back, Karolina Pliskova.

Tennis Canada is conspicuously not mentioning the opponent (Israel) in any of their Davis Cup posts today.

Read the latest Bounces for more on the circumstances around this contentious tie.

Trump walked out, as did most of his crew, only about 90 minutes into this match.

Not sure if he’ll come back or not. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Guy in front of me in Ashe is actually eating the infamous $100 chicken-nuggets-with-caviar, which I thought was more of a parody than an actual menu item which people bought.

We could almost certainly be taxing the rich more.

Ooh, #USOpen just showed Trump on screen again during this set break and there was loud, clear booing this time.
September 7, 2025 at 7:33 PM
Trump draws some boos, and a few claps, when shown saluting during the anthem. (No one else was saluting the anthem).

Stadium still half empty due to long security lines.

The #USOpen has moved the trophy to inside the Rolex suite, which is where Trump is, but surely not where the trophy has ever belonged before during a final.

Another Sinner-Alcaraz final is booked, this time at the #USOpen.

Their era has been well underway for a while now.

US Open media were sent instructions for how to deal with the enhanced security on site for Trump's expected first visit to the #USOpen in ten years...

A comprehensive win for Naomi Osaka, imperious on serve as she routs Coco Gauff 6-3, 6-2.

Osaka is into her first major quarterfinal since the 2021 Australian Open; she’s never lost a match at a major once she reached the quarterfinals.

Really liked this from @girinathan.bsky.social about how unfocused Ashe crowds are, especially in the first week.

As Bounces subscribers already read this morning, the US Open mixed doubles was ultimately a runaway hit with fans, but there was nervousness from organizers:

USTA invited staff and ball crew to act as seat fillers in case it was going to look empty on TV, as seen in this email:
