The Cévennes is a mountain range on the south-eastern edge of the Massif Central in France. It hosts several endemic species, including these two striking ones.

New publication on the Papilio machaon complex around the Mediterranean Basin.
-> P. machaon absent from N. Africa. Island pop. are isolated and show low gen. diversity. Evidence of weak gene flow between P. machaon and P. hospiton in Corsica.

The Poecilimon genus has undergone radiation in the Balkans. Some species are elegant and slender while others are massive like Polysarcus.

I really enjoyed discovering the grasshoppers of Montenegro this summer. I came into contact with 32 species in 2 weeks, with densities that I've never encountered in France.

Chorthippus jucundus is an attractive species, large and brightly coloured. Most French populations are restricted to the Spanish border in the Pyrénnées Orientales. Outside this area it's very rare. There are a few fragmented populations near Montpellier.
