With more and more open source projects switching to some sort of commercial licensing model with discounts for small business and community projects, the question keeps coming up: is a 100% discount the same as "free"?

So I made a video about it. What do you think?

Use AI they said, it will be fun they said, you'll get more productive they said. *Sigh*
Asking Co-Pilot with Claude to not modify anything, modifies multiple files anyway. Telling it to do something line by line so verification can be done, does multiple lines anyway and messes things up. 😑

Putting all your controllers in one directory and your views in another
Is like putting the cortisone and hemorrhoid cream in the drawer with toothpaste because they're all tubes.

This was a tough talk to get right, and I'm not convinced @icooper.bsky.social and I got everything. At the very least, I hope it made you think about how you instrument your Event Driven Apps.

Speaking at conferences about it was not enough, so I wrote a blogpost on outside in testing as well 🙂. Inspired by @icooper.bsky.social & @martindotnet.bsky.social

I don't know who might need to hear this*, but unit testing your validation logic with a single test to make sure it doesn't error, isn't actually testing.

func Validate() bool { return true; }

*I know exactly who needs to hear this.

From one of the people I trust most on LLMs - a clear explanation of a common and very dangerous security threat
And yes, this is effectively me trying to get the world to care about prompt injection by trying out a new term for a subset of the problem!

I hope this captures the risk to end users in a more visceral way - particularly important now that people are mixing and matching MCP servers themselves

I just love that all those fancy algorithms on socials to show me "relevant" posts always show me stuff from at least two weeks ago! *Sarcasm*

So I finally got up and running over here! I wasn't really active over on Mastodon to begin with, but expect to see even less over there and more over here!
