Yes, people do. You remind them of Wright-Patterson AFB and the surrounding people, they say, "oh, that makes sense then," you show them the map, they say, "okay yeah I get it."

The old 3C plan had the train go through Dayton. The "+D" is just salesmanship.

It doesn't answer one other question: "Why not build a new rail line that connects through <town name>?"

The answer to that question is: Laying down an entirely new rail line would cost one heckuvalot of money.

This map came answers two questions:

"Why is the 3C line going through Dayton?" Because the alternative route has lower-speed tracks and fewer passengers along the way.

"What towns will CMH-CLE stop at?" There's only one rail line on the most-direct route, so it'll be a few of those towns.

Basically: If you or your neighbors use WTOP for daily commuter traffic forecasting, you're in the Greater DC area.

I was going to say "not Baltimore" but MARC rail runs all the way up to Perryville.
VRE runs south to Spotsylvania. On the Maryland side, south to La Plata or Leonardstown.
West is Gainesville/Leesburg. Maybe Culpeper.
East, at least to Annapolis.
Northwest, Frederick, possibly Hagerstown.

What policy allows them to decide to open a crosswalk-having intersection to traffic before the crosswalks are functional?

Did you notice whether there's LPI?

Could you increase the height of the embed so that the map is approximately square, matching the aspect ratio of Columbus?
(I don't know if this is possible in Flourish, or your CMS)

I demand better from them, and I know @transitcolumbus.org , Yay Bikes, the American Heart Association, and others are doing so, too.

There was much discussion in the most-recent Complete Streets policy hearing of how DPS' standards do not include common best practices: youtube.com/watch?v=vSWU...

I think it's:
- This crossing may have been in compliance with the City's standards at the time the project was designed
- The City's standards (then and now) are severely out of date, and are not regularly updated as new federal and state guidance is published.

But that's just for SUP crossings. In the case of _crosswalks_, ODOT's MDG section 8.3.4 contains extensive discussion of ways to reduce conflict, including LPIs, protected and exclusive pedestrian phases, turn restrictions, raised crosswalks, and more. www.transportation.ohio.gov/working/engi...

I'll add that ODOT's Multimodal Design Guide section on mutual yielding behavior is entirely written "In the case of permissive vehicular right and left turns across a bikeway," and does not recommend against permissive turns. www.transportation.ohio.gov/working/engi...
November 20, 2025 at 4:33 PM
Columbus' 2022 crosswalk design memo www.columbus.gov/files/shared... has no consideration of LPI, signal phase, or conflicts.
November 20, 2025 at 4:23 PM
Columbus' 2023 SUP design memo www.columbus.gov/files/shared... merely says that "[d]esigners should have a firm understanding of mutual yielding behavior" rather than take specific steps to prevent conflict.
