I think you're conflating 2 seasons here. The chopping and changing with different systems and players every week season was the year after we nearly won the league and it culminated in a 6-1 defeat at stoke. It also came after a huge summer of big signings and upheaval. I agree with the comparison

Ive always sympathised with the fella. He's lived through these tragedies. He carries the trauma. He knows more about it than I ever could. But even with all that in mind he's so fucking offside here it's untrue. This song carries zero malice it's a joyful song about a joyful man.
