Last year @findsorguk.bsky.social started sending out a monthly newsletter/update that we can share with interested groups & peoples.
Is this something that might interest the Bsky crowd??

Weird fused/melted medieval coin hoard, probably all late Edward I but only the 2 separated coins were identifiable, the other 7 not so much...
Still, acquired by @ducollections.bsky.social through the Treasure process, so hopefully available to view there soon!

Had a thoroughly lovely time @romanfindsgroup.bsky.social Spring conference!
I think we can agree that amongst archaeologists, finds specialists really are the loveliest & friendliest bunch - & not biased at all 😜
i'm sure @findsorguk.bsky.social will agree....

I'll be talking about these cheeky little chappies on Sunday at the Roman Finds Group conference in Durham in Sunday!

medieval coin ID'ing is all about fine margins!
John class 6a2 or Henry III 6c1??
6a2 has an 'E' with spur, but 6c1 has large pearls in the crown!
So we thought latter, turns out it's the former due to neat bust and rectangular face...

Spent yesterday over at Tees Archeology, one of my local partners, working with their volunteers as part of some training we're delivering
Also had a peek at some of the stuff from the LIA/RB site at Catcote currently being sorted in the Archives
including this rare (this far north) Rossette Brooch😍

here @findsorguk.bsky.social the Research never ends...
Just updating this 10 year old Treasure case: we think the figures on the bezel of this medieval iconographic ring are Gabriel (left) & Mary in an Annunciation scene.
props to Rob Webley 😘 (where is he

of course, not everyone looked on Elizabeth's bust with the admiration we have afforded her....
Papists & Recusants had their own way of paying homage to her image 😅
(doubly #Defaced in this case, rubbed & crossed out!)

👑These First Issue coins were struck with the earliest likenesses of Elizabeth I as monarch 👑
The earliest formal portrait [probs] dates c.1560, whereas this coin is 1559, from a 1558 portrait die.

I mean, this is lovely wholesome stuff, exactly what museums should be about, and yet...

(a small party of me worries this is just giving the 'rock-fits in the palm of your hands-nutters' ideas 👀)

A tiny gold annular brooch dating from the 13th century, found near Barnard Castle, Co. Durham in 2022.

Our well thumbed 2nd edition of Renfrew and Bahn.
Can't be many archaeologists of our generation without an old copy somewhere.

I have to admit, I have ventured back to The Bad Place a little over the past couple of days, but only to enjoy those bitter dimwits howling in vain at the moon.
Honestly, it's a beautiful sight 😂😂😂
