A guy stared into some irradiated gold plates in a bag and they told him to displace native Americans to make a place for his religion about how they’re the true Native Americans descended from Israelites

I don’t think I’ve seen a series release be fumbled this hard

FOR THREE WHOLE YEARS

The most good this series has done for me is reevaluating all their old work in a much higher light and convinced me to get started filling in the older ones like Wolf's Rain. Feels like the shitpost fishing episode from Space Dandy (or any of its weaker stuff) had more emotional stakes and payoff.

okay you've convinced me to add it to the Greater Extended Annoverse watch order

times I've felt it's been an actual series with an identity were the slower paced moments like when they visited the secluded islands, I'm thinking probably because they didn't have the obligatory John Wick scene thrown in. Impressive tech and choreography but doesn't add much without buildup.

watching the 2004 series alongside this has certainly been an experience of looking at one thing next to its reflection in a funhouse mirror

I think everything done so far would be fine if it were filler in a 52 episode or longer show like Ghost in the Shell or FMA, but it’s crazy how little we know about this thing towards its ending compared to Bebop even by its fifth episode

so perplexing how it's been trying to recreate all the old aura and vibe but not done anything to build the characters or world to earn those moments, if not outright defusing any tension or conflicts in the opening 5 minutes of an episode, now I know why and had completely forgotten she died (RIP)

I think since AoU there'd been a problem growing that everything was too interconnected and advertised other stuff, where characters came 2nd to the path to Endgame, but the core cast's movies were still enough to hold the ship together. With the core gone post-Endgame, the universe just fell apart.

When I saw they’d contracted out to Sentai, I had a bad feeling. Usually Toonami works with the Cali studios like Bang Zoom, but apparently it was deemed wise to pawn their marque title succeeding their biggest hit off to the place that gives Funimation/Crunchyroll a *good* reputation in comparison.
