Never had cheese long enough to pay attention to the expiration I don’t think, but no, this is a bad thing to do… although I guess all the time it’s not plugged in it’s okay. Probably wouldn’t want to plug it into the mains until I knew it was totally dry and clean inside though

This is actually extremely OK to do in the UK, as the the BS 1363 socket shields the neutral and live slots until the longer earth pin of the plug engages with a mechanism inside. This makes it the world’s safest plug/socket combo and neither a babies finger nor a raindrop could ever get inside one!
