Masked protesters greeted us in the wintery sleet with soggy flyers. Once in our seats, President Paul Alivisatos' opening sentence, "There is a crisis in free inquiry..." was punctuated with a few poignant boos as crisp dry flyers rained down and a few audience members stood in unison.
