I'm REALLY trying to retain some semblance of positivity going into the next 4. If only for my family and friends, and their wellbeing.

I know it's going to take fighting like hell to keep things from becoming a catastrophe for women, LGBTQ people, etc. I'm trying to be ready for it.

Wouldn't even have made the news.

This whole thing is about sending a message. It's why the massive manhunt. It's why the media frenzy. It's why the unnecessarily large escort teams when moving him. It's for show.

Meanwhile, barely a peep about any of this-

That's the straps, not the outer ring.

Even the Quest controllers have strap options.

Who's to say these won't, too?

It literally works now. What the hell?

And gyro has been a thing for years but it hasn't started being mainstream until recently.

Plus, since when has something being mainstream been an indicator of its usefulness or effectiveness?

Weird takes all around, my guy.

I completely disagree. The GPD is hands-down one of the worst, most unergonomic handheld PCs I've used. The stick placement is almost WORSE than the Switch's.
November 30, 2024 at 11:11 PM
Okay, cool? It's not my fault nor my problem that you can't use them effectively. For me, they're faster than archaically tapping at the screen.

Like, genuinely, all of your complaints so far seems to boil down to a YOU problem.

And to be honest? I don't really care that it's your problem.

I actually use the left pad fairly frequently, depending on what I'm doing or playing. I use it all the time when I'm typing on the simulated keyboard. It's the same as the way the steam controller worked. It's really fast and intuitive.

I guess for me, I'd rather more options than fewer.

It is an acronym.

Time And Relative Dimension In Space.

Because British and goofy.

Can we do the octopus/octopi thing and just drop the S? Tardi?

I dunno. God, I'm such a nerd. Lol

The track pads on the Steam Controller were an upgrade, though. They were visually similar, but their actual hardware were an upgrade.

The pads on the Index were narrow, but they functioned like normal pads. Both cardinal directions.
November 30, 2024 at 3:41 PM
I 100% disagree. I actually hate the layout of most of the others I've used. Especially where they have their sticks and buttons. I have big hands, so my right hand always cramps after using the thing for even a short period of time.

They're only marginally better than the Switch.
November 30, 2024 at 3:37 PM
Given they're VR controllers, does it really matter what they LOOK like? Isn't it more important how they function?
November 30, 2024 at 3:33 PM
Based on the renders, it looks like there are.

What I'm curious of is: are the triggers dual stage? Similar to how the original Steam Controller's were. I'm also curious if they're using Hall Effect sticks
November 30, 2024 at 2:53 PM
It's the internal code name. Just like the internal code name for the headset is Deckard. They're both references to Blade Runner.

Similar to how the code names for the Deck APU are Aerith and Astaroth.

Valve's hardware team are MASSIVE nerds, and I love it. Lol
November 30, 2024 at 2:51 PM
The thing is, the original steam controller actually sold well. The reason it was pulled from the market wasn't because it was selling poorly it was because Valve was embroiled in a lawsuit involving an IP troll company suing them over the back plate buttons.
November 30, 2024 at 2:47 PM
I know I said it in another comment, but just to make sure there's no confusion, Valve didn't make the Vive. HTC did. When Valve sat down to make their own, they specifically built them with sticks in mind.
November 30, 2024 at 2:45 PM
In fairness, a lot of things we consider standard on controllers weren't mainstream when they were first introduced.

I'm curious, have you tried the Deck? I use mine pretty frequently, and, I'll be honest, I have grown to prefer it's layout to a standard Xbox or DualShock. Especially the sticks.
November 30, 2024 at 2:44 PM
The first Steam Controller actually sold pretty well before they had to pull it from the market because of a lawsuit involving the backplate buttons.

Also, Valve didn't make the Vive. They made the Index, which had sticks AND touchpads.

As a user of both the SC and Deck, the pads are a godsend.
November 30, 2024 at 2:40 PM
Maybe, but I'll take function over aesthetics when it comes to a controller.

Square pads work better for 1-to-1 input mimicry of a mouse, stick, ball, etc. Rectangles are less usable space.

I'm more concerned with how comfortable and useful it is than how "visually pleasing" it looks.
