One could argue that Meta may simply be catering to its audience by stopping its fact-checking service, but our data suggests this is not the case.

This plot shows agreement for those who use each platform to get news 'a few times a week' or more frequently. Frequent users still want fact-checkers.

While perceptions of third-party fact-checking are clearly different across political leanings—with conservatives being more likely not to want fact-checking, most respondents had positive perceptions of third-party fact-checkers. (Even in our sample that skewed conservative.)
