I’ve hated Piccalilli since I was a kid. I’m sure my parents remember, but after visiting them for the past couple of days, got on a train back to London, opened the sarnie they’d made for me to see a ton of it in there. Tastes like uranium. I ate it to be polite, saw flashing colours, passed out

Apparently he had sailors lash him to a sail mast for four hours in a storm to observe.
A prominent critic panned it ‘soapsuds and whitewash’, Turner replied that he didn’t paint it to be understood, but to show what the storm was really like.
