As a gay ace, I love that the uni college where I’m living flies the #asexuality flag for #PrideMonth. We’ve had numerous calm weather days recently, so was hard to get a photo. I captured this one, flying to the left and not right. It’s not straight. It’s not conforming. I like that! Happy Pride!

I’ve been collecting 1950s bodybuilder magazines for a while now. These two front covers (1953 & 55) are by Arax of Paris. Like most physique photographers of the time he obscured his identity to avoid obscenity laws. Real name Krikor Djololian-Arax, he captured the male form from the 1930s to 70s.

My top 10 continued. Disclaimer: other great books also available! #LGBTHistoryMonth

1. The Sexual Perspective 🥇🌈🎨
A truly beautiful book exploring art through its production by gay artists, the ‘gay gaze’, social contexts and more. So much here of use to students and researchers at all levels. 💜

2. Hard to Imagine 🥈🎞️📸
Thomas Waugh literally tells us as it is. It’s full on, and all the better for it! Incredibly well researched and well written. More early history than my no. 3, Fully Exposed. With my no. 1, it should be on everyone’s bookshelves.

3. Fully Exposed 🥉📸📸
An absolute must for anyone exploring the history of male nude photography. I found this incredibly useful when researching the ‘artist aid’ nude photography of 1850s-80s, Eadweard Muybridge, and 1950s physique magazines.
