(1/2) I agree completely, however the tenderness they feel is often in contradiction with commercial pressures. Mental health is a key issue among UK farmers. Traditional livestock rearing isn’t aligned with systemic commoditisation of violence (slaughter, but also living conditions) of today.

Accepting the killing of animals for food normalises violence and domination. It isn’t surprising that the fish and meat sectors are exploitative in that context. Normalising the consumption of animals that feel pain (including fish) creates a cognitive dissonance in those who oppose violence
