I dunno. The history of the Atlantic laundering far-right ideas for its readership goes back decades. The cover story of this March 1991 issue was by Dinesh D'Souza. Note the deeply racist image of a white scholar being torn apart by brown, black, and yellow hands.

Agreed....though the popular faith in the economic status quo ante had (understandably) been eroding for decades. There's a lot of "blow it all up" sentiment among Trump voters (and not just Trump voters).

Say what you like about the tenets of neoliberalism, at least it's an ethos (I guess).
