A driver will also whinge they cannot get a car park right outside their favourite Main Street store, but will walk 800m from the mall carpark to the mall entrance, then probably about 1.6km walking through the mall, then 800m back out to their car again
Matter of perspective

A fellow planner has brought up the topic of carrots and sticks in transport planning. When I was a trainer with the UITP one of the training sessions was on the Public Transport "offer."

More examples of missing middle housing and even mixed use including Live/Work!

How to intensify or engage in Brownfield renewal gently. By engaging in the missing middle which is suitable city wide. This leaves your High Density to your City Centres, Metropolitan Centres, and within 800m of stations thus not freaking out the neighbours while still enjoying the benefits 👇

If one more general lane wont fix it, nor will wide general lanes!

Time to narrow those urban lanes and restore a human centric approach to our towns and cities!
November 12, 2025 at 7:44 PM
Yes lets settle the traffic down, but lets also get East Auckland truly unlocked by building the complete picture*
*Which also means eventual all day bus lanes down both sides of Pakuranga Road
November 12, 2025 at 7:11 PM
📢 A reminder this is the fastest, and cheapest way to get more people using those frequent buses plying those arterial roads 🚍 👇

And on my way to Waitemata Station from Pukekohe on the Southern Line 🛤

First time on our EMUs from Pukekohe
Last time was when the diesels were still here between Pukekohe and Papakura

Now for the City Rail Link and feeder busses from Waiuku to Pukekohe or Paerata Stations (2026)

I ended up co leading KSA's transport regulations peer review that extended to their capital's metro system as well (which is now operational)

California and Caltrains gets it on the folly of one more general lane won't fix it.
So why does NACT1 and NZTA not get it when even US jurisdictions do?

It has led to some funky designs out of Japan admittedly

But no differernt that the West in working out single garage or double garage on your 300m2 lot and how much living space was traded off as a result
November 6, 2025 at 8:20 PM
Exactly
If not 24/7 then Daylight Hours, 7 days a week as on Lambie Drive, and Puhinui Road in South Auckland also suffices
November 6, 2025 at 7:19 PM
As Ponsonby loses their minds over parking while Manukau just gets on with it (it is facing the same parking strategy refreshment including a new one way street) a reminder that it time to RETHINK PARKING, and TAME THAT TRAFFIC for the benefit of EVERYONE 👇

I got Marsden Point going in 7.0, but it was pretty bare bones.
7.1 I will actually drop to site specific level for some detailing on the Port.
Meanwhile I got the new road/bridge connection established to service the southern and eastern industrial complexes, and the City Centre! #CitiesSkylines2
