It's also interesting what's happening in the property market. My parents are saying all their friends are struggling to sell their houses at the moment (these might have started as modest houses but have been added to over the years). Is the societal wealth running out? Or a stamp duty problem?

Normally when we're talking about profits it's because of the commercial market, the five or so major house-builders in the UK, and I'm sure they are doing everything to protect it! I wonder how many self-builders realise a profit the moment they finish... but you have got inflation over the years.

Letter writing sounds like it won't work but you never know the circumstances of the person you're contacting. The estate agent route is alive and well, even if it generally increases competition.

What pressure is going on behind the scenes? I'm worried.

I wonder whether we'll see more and more of this. It really surprised me when Bill Gates seemed to play down the impact of climate change... despite writing the book 'How to Avoid a Climate Disaster'. Who knows whether they've got some leverage over these wealthy billionaires.

This must apply to so many people. It feels like we're moving from a wealthy retired population to the next generations who forgot to plan for their retirements or could just not put aside enough.
