To these & other Democrats who voted yes to this resolution against the US maintaining a social safety net similar to other advanced countries, I’d say we know your vote is a bet that corporate interests are going to bail you out in the primaries. I don’t think they will. This ain’t the 80s anymore.

And 3 of 8 voted corporate:
Marie Glusenkamp Perez (Dist. 3 Vancouver and southwest, is she really a Dem?)
Kim Schrier @repkimschrier.bsky.social (Dist. 8, Bellevue and eastside King County)
Marilyn Strickland @marilynstrickland.bsky.social (Dist. 10, south of Tacoma and Olympia)

2 of 8 didn’t vote:
Suzan DelBene @repdelbene.bsky.social (Dist. 1 - Everett)
Rick Larsen @repricklarsen.bsky.social (Dist. 2 - Bellingham and northern westside)

In Washington State, 3 of 8 Dems voted wisely:
Emily Randall @emilyrandallwa.bsky.social (Dist. 6 - proud to say my Rep, Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas)
Pramila Jayapal @jayapal.house.gov (Dist. 7 - Seattle)
Adam Smith @adamsmith.house.gov (Dist 9 - Auburn and South King County)
To them, thank you.

Gabriel Vasquez @repgabevasquez.bsky.social (Dist. 2, representing Las Cruces and the south of the state) voted corporate (yes to the resolution).
November 22, 2025 at 5:03 AM
New Mexico Congressional Representatives, all Democrats, went with much the rest of the nation’s Dems. Teresa Leger Fernandez @fernandez.house.gov (Dist 3, Santa Fe and North) voted wisely (no). Melanie Stansbury @repstansbury.bsky.social (Dist. 1, Albuquerque, normally my hero) didn’t vote.

Unfortunately, a large number of Democrats went along with the Republicans in voting in favor of this resolution in apparent favor of corporate donors. Rep. Sean Casten of Illinois ( @casten.house.gov ) said it best, “Either they are stupid, or they think that you are.”

Harry Truman’s observation on the socialism that the GOP opposed in 1952, and continues to oppose today as “socialism,” includes public power utilities, Social Security, labor unions, and “anything that helps people.”

(“Capt. Leahy, who was a member of the Rough Riders, is a resident of Las Vegas and is spoken of as one of the ablest young attorneys in New Mexico.” Judge Fall was said to have been seriously ill at his home in El Paso for months, and later expressed confusion about this news that he’s resigned.)
November 22, 2025 at 12:36 AM
(“The reason given for Attorney General Fall’s resignation is that his private legal business precludes his filling the office any longer. He accepted the position at personal sacrifice temporarily at the earnest solicitation of Gov. Curry with whom he has been in an intimate friendship for years.”)

(“Gov. George Curry, who is now here stated that Capt. David J. Leahy will be appointed as Attorney General immediately upon his return to New Mexico. Capt. Leahy is at present Assistant US District Attorney for New Mexico.”)

(The Santa Fe New Mexican gleefully reported: “Juan Herrera was arrested last night for being drunk and disorderly. He was lodged in the (Santa Fe) County Jail.”)
November 22, 2025 at 12:35 AM
(Although President William McKinley wanted him to resign earlier in the year after finding out about his deteriorating heart condition, he never replaced him, and the position remained vacant until Roosevelt stepped into the role in McKinley’s second term.)
November 22, 2025 at 12:35 AM
(Also “Very destructive fires have been raging in the Panhandle of Texas and east of Ute Creek in this territory. Large areas of excellent pasture have been burnt.”)

(Losing nerve while trying to infiltrate the gang, Mason made excuses and fled. Billy figured that he’d turn them in and thought about killing him, but stable owner Sam Dedrick advised against it. Pat Garrett hurriedly tried to form a posse to capture the gang at the stable, but arrived too late.)
November 22, 2025 at 12:31 AM
(Around the same time, Jesse Evans led his gang up to Lincoln County to prey on the Chisum ranches and the Mescalero Apache Reservation herds. They would soon fence the stolen livestock through L. G. Murphy & Co.)
