I don't disagree with anything you're saying. I don't blame an entire generation for anything, but the approach to housing - treating it as an asset and opposing any policy that could devalue it is unsustainable and it is the current generation of prospective first time homeowners paying the price.

Yes, housing shouldn't be treated as an asset. But the policies passed in the generation of boomers guaranteed that housing prices would continue rising, which is great for homeowners. But it was always going to reach a point of unaffordability. No one is blaming all boomers for this.

Don't forget the coal industry in Australia pays barely any tax meaning that Australians see none of the benefit of their natural resources but will see all of the negatives caused by the burning of said resources.

Two generations is quite a lot! And having such an old / small workforce for those generations will be very damaging for the country. I do agree that we are overpopulated globally, but a declining birthrate definitely doesn't have 0 negative consequences.

The way that tax systems and retirement work for most countries is that the younger generation works and pays tax to support the older generation so they don't have to. When there are no new babies older people have to retire later.
