Idk I program things and complain mostly
Are there ad blocker hacks or even user scripts out there yet that will stop the Gemini pop ups?? Don't think I can convince anyone here to turn them off at the org level

If you're going to have an LLM generate a test plan for you, make sure to check if it's referencing departments that don't exist in this company.

I can never tell if I don't like React or I don't like the way that people write React codebases. Can barely tell what's going on when you're linking 3 ternaries and defining a data structure inline.

My developer peers that have been most excited about AI coding tools are also the ones that don't see value in long term planning like writing code that is easy to change or taking time to understand the problem at hand before starting to code.

"But this is more RESTful" leads to a road of pain and confusion. REST means nothing, stop trying to be RESTful and just make an HTTP API that makes sense and does what it says.

Your implementation does not need to be an exact match to how your interface works. If it makes sense for you to care about some detail that should be hidden from users don't bend over backwards to try and hide it from yourself in a way that remains useable.

I wish duck duck go results didn’t change order when I press the back button to check another result.

If you're using a server framework with a service layer, pass all calls to the repo layer through the service, even if it's just a direct pass through. Then when you find some new functionality that you want to add to the service layer you don't need to rewrite all the call sites.

Shout out to the vultures for cleaning up the “gift” that the resident coyote pack left in the driveway this morning.

I like the idea of text editors as IDEs but the experience of using neovim at work is really annoying. I get things setup and they work alright for a while and then an update breaks the setup. I just don't have the time to go and investigate when a hotkey suddenly doesn't do anything now.

If abstraction is a scary concept to you, maybe software engineering is not the field for you. Cause I got bad news, it's abstractions all the way down.

I really want to start watching YouTube again but between a decade+ worth of subscriptions and a diverse set of interests it’s kinda hard to find the videos I want to watch. All I want is to make subscription groups and I doubt YT will ever add that.

I can’t decide if a dark comedy about some frat bro running for president specifically to avoid being convicted of a crime would do well right now or if it would be too much…

Got halfway through this work before I realized I was just manually doing what should be a Dockerfile. Wish my brain worked faster in the cold

Happy that I've built the kind of career where I can forget that jQuery was a thing for a solid 5 years or so. My heart goes out to those of us that are forced to use it.

IDK what to say to anyone that's using it by choice. Live mas?
DEAR NEW DEVELOPERS: What is your experience with jQuery? It's okay if you haven't used it, I'm just taking a poll.

The constantly overlooked part of gen ai “use cases” is where the actual data is gonna come from. “Ask your fridge how much milk is left” great but how would it know??? The language machine can make up a sentence but it has no milk level monitoring

What happened to all those community made strategy guides that were uploaded to sites as plain text files in the early 2000s? I miss gratuitous ascii art, a lack of editing, and the uncertainty if it’s my fault or the guide’s fault that it’s not working at all.

I’m really hoping EPIC the Musical will be the first broadway musical I see. Is it anything more than songs right now? No, but I can be patient
