I don't think that the public understands the significance of a primary or family physician ian on your team. Get one you trust and will advocate for you when the time comes. Remember, your primary care physician is your source of accurate medical information. Learn to trust your physician.

This year, wellness is a crucial component of a comprehensive health evaluation. The evaluation focuses on issues like loneliness, forgetfulness, and depression. I particularly focus on falling and how to prevent it. Data shows that adults over 65 years who fall seldom return to previous status.

In South Carolina, the prevalence of the flu is on the rise, yet many African-American patients are still resistant to getting the flu vaccine. As a healthcare provider, I am always looking for ways to improve trust, but overcoming decades of maltreatment is challenging. Tjbmd

The biggest barrier to a good quality and longevity of life for young people is fake information and people who give them health information without credentials to do so. I recently saw a patient who went on tictok to treat her cancer wasting precious time needed for her cancer treatment. Sad!

Fake news is on the incline in the black community. One of my patients told me that he want to take a statin because he didn't want to develop dementia. His bad cholesterol was very high. I reminded him, heart disease stroke, dementia were very high in the African-American community.

Today, most young physician have no idea what bedside manner means.

Getting people to appreciate that lifestyles plays a significant role most of time health outcomes. Smoking cigars seems to be on the rise especially in young African-American men. CIGARS HAVE TWICE THE CARCINOGENIC SUBSTANCES as cigarettes. Alcohol and smoking is a deadly combination. Tjbmd

People have no idea how hard it is for Black women to always have to break glass ceilings, set new records, and "be the change."

It literally weathers us, kills us from the inside out.

Get ready to see an increase in people with health issues be directly affected by the shutdown of the government. Compliance effect people from all races, political persuasion, geographical location. This is awful. It's a man-made pandemic. Preventive healthcare, seek it, do it. Take care. Tjbmd

I believe that some people will have difficulty deciding who to consider regarding health information. Black folk have been operating on a diet of poor information for a long time. The climate of distrust will continue if my colleagues don't step up and educate the public.

COVID-19 & Cancer.
In my community, COVID-19 is rising, mostly among younger people. Yet younger people, in particular, have not been vaccinated. There is also a rise of cancer in younger people, particularly breast cancer, colon cancer, multiple myeloma, stomach cancer, and oral cancer. Tjbmd

Vaccines and their safety are in the news. As a result of mistrust, when politicians are involved in medical science, the public is in peril regarding vaccines. VACCINES ARE SAFE. They are endorsed by the American Academy of Family Physician. Discuss with your physician.

Increased alcohol use is a significant health issue for younger and older patients. I saw a young African-American man with very high blood pressure. I am noticing that an alcohol use history is commonplace in many younger men that I see in my practice. It is difficult for some to stop. Tjbmd

Trying to convince people that if you smoke, the likelihood that your blood pressure will ever be under control is difficult. Even if you take your pressure medications, control is unlikely. Heart attack, stroke, cancer, and erectile dysfunction are side effects of smoking.

Did you know that about 83% of African-Americans have a primary care physician, which is about the same as white people. However, some black folks are not likely to seek care due to affordability issues. Also, follow-up care is a significant issue, sometimes related to poor health literacy. Tjbmd

I recently consulted with an undocumented patient who has not been able to take care of his health needs because of the fear of his undocumented status. I never thought that I
would first have to consider these kinds of issues while trying to be a compassionate physician. Tjbmd

In my experience, men of any age who get diagnosed with Prostate cancer have other health issues as well. Remember, your concer physician will not treat your hypertension, or diabetes, or other health issues. Outcomes will be improved if lifestyle changes are made. Talk to your primary physician
