That was not an ovary but a cell on the ovary called an ovarian follicle (containing the egg); They extracted these follicles to study them in vivo, from the paper:

Turns out the lovely folks at matplotlib already thought of us with AsinhNorm, I would have to fix the ticks of the colorbar, but I have to go and cook dinner, so I will finish here ^^
