the problem is that a lot of people in those communities aren't here for him, and they will leave

Really wish I hadn’t looked

Last week. That one is always fun

Hahaha let’s laugh at the tranny joke. So fucking inclusive. Fuck you

Currently listening to your interview! It's really good!

Not super related to the column itself, but just wanted to say I’m genuinely delighted that you’re posting here. It’s greatly appreciated

Even if he did plan to stop with us, it would be nice to believe that people care enough to stand up for us anyway. We’re a small, vulnerable minority, and without the support of allies we have very little hope of ever leading lives free of fear

It is hateful, and in a lot of ways is a copycat movement imported from the US and the UK. But it’s also homegrown. I mentioned yesterday that we have been under attack for years now but have struggled to get people to understand that this is a political issue, and a serious one

god he’s vile
February 10, 2025 at 1:48 AM
I get what you’re saying too but… look at it from my perspective. The right wing has been ramping up attacks against us for years (esp the trans and drag communities) but on the left it’s mostly crickets and jokes about how silly these “culture wars” are. It doesn’t leave us feeling much hope
February 10, 2025 at 1:16 AM
It might be, but for those of us who it targets it is very, very real. And we don’t love it when people who claim to support us get dismissive and say “oh it’s all confected” or “it’s just a distraction from the real issues”

Unfortunately yes. Labor is almost as deeply beholden to the religious right as the Coalition, which makes them a terrible ally for LGBT people. They’re the less terrible of the two, but they will never support us unless there is widespread community anger against them like there was with the Census

I think it’s dangerous to rank PHON above the Liberals. It probably will make no difference but if it does and PHON holds the balance of power, then a lot of people whose rights we profess to care about will suffer, and much worse even than we would under a Dutton majority government
February 9, 2025 at 10:30 PM
Keep in mind though that it is the Minns government that is refusing to take action here. Labor have consistently failed the LGBT community, and the fact that Dutton would be worse doesn’t let them off the hook here

I sincerely respect the work you put in to trying to reach out to them. I used to try. I’ve given up. The despair finally caught up with me

Okay I am not going to have this conversation any longer. Every trans person I know, myself included, is pleasantly surprised by this change and we do see a shift. I’m glad you think he was always where he is now. Happy for you. Bye.

All I am saying is that until recently I've never felt he had much conviction in his stated support for us. Lately there's been a tone shift that makes me trust him a little more. Not so much a backpedal as "okay, now I'm starting to really believe you"
February 6, 2025 at 10:25 PM
um, sorry, I'm not really sure what you're saying here?
February 6, 2025 at 10:19 PM
sort of. he's definitely always supported trans rights, but a lot of his earlier comments have always seemed to me to have that "we have to defeat the misguided ones in the marketplace of ideas" feel? i kinda get the impression he's joined us in the "ah fuck it these people are just plain evil" camp

Oh yeah she’s the living embodiment of “the leopards won’t eat me if I feed the other queers to them first”. Terrible woman
