The day after Axios' story, Witkoff himself posted (accidentally) that he thought it was leaked by Dmitriev of Russia. Axios denied Dmitriev was their source. But if he was, he was very effective: the Axios news hit big and US officials scrambled to respond. 2/

The leak to Axios produced a White House response: Trump swung behind the 'plan'. Spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt denied it came from Russia, said it was a "good plan" and a U.S. product. 3/
🇷🇺🇺🇦Question: On Ukraine, you said this is a good plan. This proposal demands major concessions from Ukraine and doesn't demand much from Russia. So was Russia involved in drafting?

🇺🇸Leavitt: Your understanding is wrong

In Axios' scoop on the leaked document, they called it a "28-point U.S. plan", citing unnamed officials from Russia and the US. Someone then tried to push it through before Thanksgiving. But now the US Sec. of State, backpedaling, denies it's his and denies there is even a deadline. Who is lying? 4/

It sure looks like Axios got played here. Ukraine held the line, but it was Axios who put them under terrible pressure. The only clear things about this shitshow are that Axios owes us an explanation, and that media must stop printing 'scoops' from motivated sources while granting them anonymity. 5/
Ukraine is rejecting Trump’s plan right now at the UN Security Council.
