California voters passed the Voters FIRST Act, creating the Citizens Redistricting Commission (CRC) to stop that from happening here. Politicians are legally banned from drawing their own lines. The CRC, made up of ordinary citizens chosen through a transparent process, is still in place and

This is a pure partisan move by the state if Texas, without the consent of their voters. Newsom is bringing it to THE PEOPLE, and letting THE PEOPLE decide and hold the power.

Texas Republicans are redrawing maps via the standard legislative process, with no voter referendum and no independent commission involved, the maps are drafted and passed by the GOP-controlled legislature and signed by the governor. Texas has historically been sued for racial gerrymandering, & lost

only for the 2026, 2028, and 2030 cycles, and authority reverts to the commission after 2030 census. The process includes public visibility, legislative debate, and voter choice via referendum, far more transparent than unilateral legislative action.
