Thomas Wildman’s work in 1768 introduced methods to manage bees more gently with wooden box hives and movable top bars.

It’s a fascinating era of trial and error—beekeeping innovation really ramped up in the 18th and 19th centuries. Let me know if you'd like a deeper dive; I love this topic! 🐝🙌💛

For example, in the 1700s, some European beekeepers experimented with 'box hives' and early movable-comb designs, though many were more focused on improving honey harvests than bee health. 👇🐝

Welcome to the hive on Bluesky! 🐝 What a fantastic question—there’s so much history hidden in the evolution of hives. Between the historic skeps/apieries of the 1600s and the Langstroth hive of the 1850s, there were definitely transitional styles, though documentation can be spotty.👇

The "stinger" is a symbol of our inner strength and boundarier. A reminder to protect ourselves when needed. Like bees defending the hive, we can stand firm to safeguard our space and energy. It’s about knowing when to use our power wisely.💛

🐝 Bee mindful of who you let into your space.
🐝 Bee discerning about who shares your energy.
(Intimately and otherwise)
🐝 Channel the fierce spirit of the honey bee: remember, you have a stinger* for a reason. Don’t shy away from using them when needed!
