It’s a trade off in this day and age. Purchasing for points or rebates generates valuable market research data creates a predictive model (a dossier on you) so that the consumer can get a few pennies on your purchase. We are the product!

They operate rebates.jp in Japan which is exactly Ebates in JP. Checking The Wayback Machine it looks like it started in 2016, but they eventually acquired ebates.com in 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if Ebates was working on tearing down the competition, so maybe they just bought them out instead.
