What would have made this a "triple-mega jackpot Christmas-y day"? Belatedly starting #adventofcode; but currently too much "real" work to be done.

Previous TV purchase was in 2009, so the TV refresh rate is now headed for 15+ years 🤞

My "things that turned out to be built to last", a.k.a. the Sam Vimes "Boots" theory.

(also: my last couple of phones have each lasted 5+ years - all Apple)
I rent, so no major appliances (thankfully) but...

10+:
- TV (Samsung)
- integrated amplifier (Peachtree Audio)
- digital camera (Fujifilm)

20+:
- stereo speakers (Bowers and Wilkins)

30+:
- various Lego sets from when I was a kid
- Amiga 1200 computer still works perfectly, all original parts!

It also looks to me like there was a recent spike in posts on this topic, after having first appeared earlier this year. I wonder if they first tried it in the UK and have now gone further afield; I'm in Switzerland.

I don't see where the regulations say that folks are entitled to use your website on any terms (think ADA in the US) and some Googling suggests the UK regulator agrees. But it's clearly a paywall-by-stealth and I'm surprised/disappointed to see the Guardian at it!

Also noticed this this morning! Just poorly worded? The GDPR (more correctly, I just discovered: the ePrivacy Directive) doesn't require cookies-necessary-for-the-site-to-function, e.g. login and shopping cart-type things, to have an opt-out.
