I know the world is a dumpster fire; I read the news.
It always has been; I read history.
I'd like this to be a little escape from it.

"Anyone spouting that friends are a liability because they get in the way of your plans to conquer the world is a weird idiot. Do you know why people try to conquer the world? Because they don't have any friends."

Catching up on TV. Andor season 2: feels eerily prescient. Watson: goofy but the most authentically I've seen Pittsburgh represented onscreen.

Playstation raising hardware prices. First time ever a video game console has gone UP in price...?

Make of that what you will.

Living the dream. Thursday I saw the Polkamaniacs at Golden Age. Friday was Ron Funches doing stand up at Bottlerocket. Saturday, Barrel & Flow, best and coolest beer fest in Pittsburgh. Sunday, floating for hours on the Yough. I'm really beat now, but what fun.

I don't post here often, and usually not about politics, because you all know me. But for the record: fuck Trump, man. Even putting ethics aside, it's amazing how much he's been able to damage our economy in such a short time.

Working from home means I put in more hours but feel happier about doing it because I'm saving so much time. Commutes, dressing up, prepping meals... I know not every job can be done remotely, but I'm lucky to have management that realizes it's a win/win for some jobs.

My neighborhood's UPS driver is so hot that my entire friend group is obsessed.

As a tech worker, I hate to risk sounding like a Luddite, but I have serious concerns about AI: ethics, environmental impact, and the poor quality of work it produces in many cases.

It's good for some things, but way overhyped by companies trying to sell it. 🤑

I make better cocktails at home than the majority of bars. This is a blessing and a curse.

I need to pack for a week and a half of chilly weather, with dress that is "smart casual," includes a sportscoat, and also involves a lot of outdoors activity. With no laundry available. I pride myself on never taking more than one carry-on sized suitcase on trips, but this might beat me.

I've discovered that my vet's favorite genre of music could probably be described as "you should have a lava lamp while listening" and I love that for him. He gave me some nice recommendations, too.

If you like a violent witty comedy, try Deli Boys. Think Guy Ritchie does Arrested Development with Pakistani American drug dealers. But way funnier than you expect.

"Found family" is a corny trope, but there is probably a reason so many of my friends are childless and have a poor relationship with their parents.

When Googling for help with any given problem, Gemni AI is useful roughly as often as "click on the first link to either Reddit or Stack Overflow."

Just listened to Big Freedia's new single "Take My Hand." So excited for the entire "gospel project" album this summer.

I never thought I'd be the kind of person who would love professional wrestling. @enjoywrestling.bsky.social changed that.

Yesterday I had a meeting with my multimillion dollar company's head of I.T. He's currently rocking a mohawk. I'm glad we're at least keeping the good aesthetics of our 80's cyberpunk corporate dystopia.

I honestly love where I work, and that's a subject for a whole other post.

When I call the social security office (paperwork re:Dad), a recording tells you that when they are busy, it may take up to 15 minutes to speak to an agent.

After on hold for about 17 minutes, they play a recording telling me to call back later when they aren't as busy, and DISCONNECT THE CALL.

My father is now in a nursing home.

..."Medicaid pending." Told just to ignore the bills for $10k/month for the next 2-6 months. Pray to the gods of bureaucracy and paperwork for me.

I'm emotionally drained but hugely relieved.

Nursing home is tentatively taking my father in next week. Can't wait for the end of this emotionally and mentally draining experience.

Life advice (death advice?): Prepay for any burial/funeral you wish to have. It is a significant emotional & financial burden on your family.
