After having been off GW for a long time, Warcry and Blackstone Fortress pulled me back in, followed by Underworlds. Two great game designs, and one... with really cool minis (that I haven't finished painting)!

Need to take some proper pics of my Warcry warbands.

Hmm... I can't recall what these are called. Corrupted electro priests or some such, from Blackstone Fortress. Scantily clad men with generators on their backs, cattle prods in their hands and high voltage cables on their heads. The UR-025 robot and a traitor guardsman from Blackstone Fortress. Painted UR in their classic pale grey/blue colour, with plenty of rust and scuff marks. Realized I don't have any really good photos of my Warcry warbands! Here are at least the leader and his right-hand man of the Untamed Beats. Think Conan the barbarian, but with bone weapons. I guess we're in Dark Sun territory here? Mostly naked flesh and rippling muscles. A shot from a four player game of Warcry. The Iron Golem's ogre had just smashed a rival leader and was stalking his next victim, among the ruins of Eight Points.

Hmm... speaking of terrain, around this time I started putting together more terrain for Infinity, and was also seduced by Warcry (in large part thanks to the terrain in the original box!).

I think nice looking terrain often enhance the experience more than nice looking minis.

Photo of an urban Infinity table I set up to introduce the game to a friend. I'm using the cardstock terrain that came with the starter set (but reinforced inside), together with some scatter terrain from Zen Terrain (RIP, they made great terrain!). Lots of small details to enhance the feel - planted sakura trees, lots of potted plants, benches and street lights. Same table, different angle. A main square of sorts, with planters, benches and trash gans. Oh, and unpainted (gasp!) resin walls. Need to rectify that. Again, same setup. Here in the middle of the game. A Zuyong heavy infantry is directing a Yaokong remote and two Zhanshi down a back alley. A shot I took right after I finished painting the terrain from the original Warcry core box. Made it pretty much as the official style - turqoise stone ruins, with bronze details and murky wooden parts. The whole idea was to paint this as quickly and easily as possible, and allow myself to leave it "good enough" with the intention of going back later to add detailing. Of course, I still haven't done that, but it's a great trick to fool yourself into not feeling overwhelmed. Did it all with a two rattle cans and a hefty drybrush.

It's been a year already?! 🥴

After having "been away" from Infinity for a bit, I got stuck back in when a friend picked up the new starter set. Painted some new (and old) Yu Jing figs, and fiiinally managed to finish the classic Guija TAG and a bunch of remotes.

The original Guija TAG (mech) painted in a dark blue/grey and white colours, dwarfing a Guilang sniper. A Zuyong Invicible and a Hsien Warrior. Both heavy infantry wearing power armor. The colour scheme is slightly off-white armor, with blue grey accents and olive green cloth details. The whole group of models from the (then) new Yu Jing starter set. A Hsien, a Zuyong, a Tiger Soldier, three Zhanshi and a sneaky ninja with a bow. They're joined by a Guija TAG, and two Husong remotes. All painted in the same off-white and blue/grey colour scheme. An army of bots! Two husong remotes, two Yaoxie and two Yaopu. They're all four legged robots, inspired by the Tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell. Here rebased properly to fit the new edition of Infinity, and photographed among some Infinity terrain.

Two legged machine with two large cannons for arms, painted in the vein of Russian tanks during WW2. Fairly weathered and worn. Photo of two Jaguars, two Iguanas and a Weasel mechs, and a squad of infantry from Heavy Gear by Dream Pod 9. These are in 1/144 scale, so there are three infantry per hex base, and the mechs are about 2-3 times the height of a person. Painted in classic Northern tan with dark grey accents and metallic weapon and engine details. Bright blue sensor "eyes" and red missiles. The Ariadna company/faction of Deathmatch: TAG Raid from Corvus Belli. A large, crab-like and fairly industrial looking TAG (mech), a smaller catterpillared drone, and three infantry. Painted in typical ariadnan green, with yellow accents.

Three battlemechs, in tan colours with dark brown accents, and grey weapons. Scuffed and beat up! A Thunderbolt, a catapult and a Shadowhawk. The Nomads faction from TAG Raid by Corvus Belli. Besides the infantry (and small, boxy remote) the main actor is the large miner mech. Painted in a dark red with white and black accents. The mech carries a drill and a heat cutter. A bunch of really tiny mecha from jovian Chronicles / Jovian Wars by Dream Pod 9, on flying stands. These are the smaller version released a few years ago, not the larger scale ones from the 90s. Painted in classic CEGA colours, that also happen to coincide with Zeon colour scheme from Gundam. Light green on the trooper mechs, a red and white prototype, and a couple of black and grey special troopers. A group of seven Yu Jing remotes, and their mechanic handler, from Infinity, by Corus Belli. They're all four legged, kind of beetle like robots with various functions. Originally inspired by the tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell, these are a bit more spindly though. Painted in dark grey and off-white and based on urban style bases. They're placed in a cyberpunk cityscape.

A top down photo of a game of Dust Warfare in progress. I've added things like arrows to show movement, and little muzzle flashes and explosions to show who is attacking who, and damage done. The table is made up of a crossroads and a number of ruined buildings, surround by trees and hedgerows. A small (150 points) SSU army for Dust Warfare. Two squads of infantry, two "gun tractors" and an artillery walker. They're placed on my friends game table, that's themed to Weird War II.

A 15 mm scale powerloader from Ground Zero Games. Big and chunky, with two forklift / claws for hands. Painted in a "caterpillar yellow" to underline that it's a working vehicle. Of course with lots of wear and tear. Two minis from Corvus Belli's futuristic sports game Aristeia - one is a kind of werewolf, so don't mind him. The other is Kozmo, a jet powered robot. Painted in white and vibrant green, with a pink cat face (kinda) on his display monitor face. A lance of mechs from Battletech. A Locust, a Battlemaster, a Commando and a Wolverine. Tan with brown accents, and light grey weapons. Cockpits are a clear blue. Quite a lot of wear and grime. The UR-025 robot (and a traitor guardsman) from GW's Blackstone Fortress. Slightly oldschool mechanical man look to it. Painted in the "official" style, witha pale bluegrey.

Photo of a Dust Tactics (or Dust Warfare if you prefer, which we mostly played) SSU walker. A 1:48 scale, chunky, weird-WW2 style walking tank. Painted in a typical "Russian green" with plenty of wear and tear. Photo of a Northern Grizzly for Heavy Gear by Dream Pod 9. A fire support mech outfitted with artiller and a heavy machine gun. This is the metal version. Tan colour scheme with dark grey details. Plenty of scratches and a buildup of dirt on its legs and tracks (mechs in Heavy Gear are like the Scopedog in VOTOMS, in that they have tank treads under their feet, allowing them to... skate!). Roger, roger! A photo of some droid miniatures from Star Wars Legion. A Tactical Droid is leading (from the front?! That's a brave tactical droid!) a squad of B2 battle droids, and a couple of Droidekas. Some regular old B1s are covering the rear. A photo of a Guijia TAG (mech) from Infinity by Corvus Belli, together with a Guilang sniper, to show the scale. This is the old sculpt that is very much based on the Landmates from Masamune Shirow's Appleseed. So chunky, big thighs, sensors on the back. No waldo arms though, which is weird. Painted mine in a dark grey and off-white.

Sneak peek of classics to come.

My first test turned out ok. Not going for the super vibrant 90s look, but certainly not the modern Blood Angels either. More of a 90s leaning middle ground.

Of course, the poor slob needs some squad and company markings. But that's for later.

Next up in the queue. Scouts, Scorpions, Hawks and Reapers.

Some Dreadnoughts and Warwalkers awaiting assembly, but for our smaller ~750 pt battles they almost feel too heavy.

Got some classics painted! Here together with their inspiration.

We'll see how they fare in the 2nd ed 40k game I have coming up!

12 Eldar Guardians with shuriken catapults organized into two squads of six. They are a mix of Rogue Trader era one-piece sculpts, and the metal body with plastic arms combo. Supporting them is the original Distort Cannon with crew. They're painted as Alaitoc, so clear blue armour and yellow helmets. Since all the non-helmeted Eldar we see in Dave Gallagher's Alaitoc painting have red hair, I thought I'd do the same here. Dave Gallaghers painting from the 90s, showing a host of Alaitoc guardians supported by Dreadnoughts, Dark Reapers and a Warlock on a volacnic planet.

Been slowly building more parts for my RDL for Obsidian Protocol, and now have enough to run some small test games. Just need to give them some paint first. Am thinking industrial and grimy!

The mechs are the same scale as the Infinity minis in the shots and come with magnets.

Took some time to paint the crew of the Normandy for the Mass Effect board game by @ithayla.bsky.social and @ericlang.bsky.social.

Daughter curiously watched the progress and is now eager to try the game. She knows nothing of ME, so it'll be fun to see how she takes to the story and characters!
Photo of the painted miniatures for the game. Liara, Tali, MaleShep, Wrex, FemShep and Garrus. Each is in their default/starting gear and colours. I've replaced the moulded bases with clear acrylic ones, to make them match the terrain they're on, and not obscure board details.

I guess it was also the base for the MC30c Frigate introduced in FFG's Star Wars rpg, and later Star Wars Armada. It went from SD size to something smaller though.

Will be aiming for the same colour scheme as the Rocawork minis for TAG Raid, that I painted last year.
The Rocawork faction for TAG Raid. A large TAG (mech) and for support infantry, as well as some terrain pieces. Painted in a bright (some would say classic Nomad) red, with white and grey accents.

I've had a bunch of Nomads (Corregidor to be precise) stashed away for more than a decade now, and suddenly felt the urge to get a force table ready.

Mainly so my Yu Jing have something to fight in demo games!

This is 200pts where I can easily switch between the Remote and McMurrough (werewolf).

Hmm... have an idea for a conversation project and on the lookout for oldschool Imperial Guard helmet/head STLs. In the vein of the original Rogue Trader IG.

Loads of options out there, but haven't seen one that's really spot on yet. Any #nerdlings who can point me in the right direction?

My painting for off to a good start in 2025, as I decided to get cracking on MYTH!

Got the Journeyman minis at the end of 24, so now I'm aiming to get all the Novice level minis painted.
The Insect enemies from MYTH. Lots of small crawlers, scorpion style captains, a big spider commander and the Terror with 1000 Legs as the boss. Undead enemies from MYTH. Including Shamblers, Captains and Yardu and Nosferatu. Better shot of Nosferatu. Probably my favourite MYTH mini. Orc enemies from MYTH. Including, grubbers, Mucker captains as well as the Razorfiend mini-boss. Oh and Keesi & Ogg mini-boss as well of course.

The first painted minis of the new year is.... Grubbers and Muckers (aka orcs) from the Diablo-esque boardgame MYTH!

Need to paint Orcneas, another lair and their commander, and then they'll be done. Then I'll take some proper photos.

Love the simple and effective mini design of MYTH!

During the first half of 2024 I managed a fair bit of mini painting - TAG Raid, Aristeia, some Oldhammer and board games.

However things wanted in the second half which had been practically barren!

Can't remember who recommended Pantheon on here (maybe @thespaceshipper.com?), but damn! What a series!

As an old William Gibson fan it feels like the adaption of a Gibson novel that was never written. In reality, based on Ken Liu's short stories.

S1 on Netflix now. 8 extremely bingeable episodes!
Cell shaded style illustration, but slightly broken up digitally, like it's a computer program on the fritz. Blue hair and clothes looking right at the viewer and seemingly doing something with her hands.
