When reporting ICE or military activity, it's important to include actionable information that people can use to help keep themselves and others safe. The SALUTE method is used by the military to provide a detailed description of opposing forces, which we can apply here. SALUTE is an acronym for SIZE, ACTIVITY, LOCATION, UNIFORM, TIME, and EQUIPMENT. Here is a summary of what a SALUTE Report entails and the type of information that will be helpful when posting ICE or NG sightings in Chicago. SIZE: Include the number of individuals, vehicles, or assets present in the observed area. ACTIVITY: Describe the actions and behavior of the observed group/individuals. LOCATION: Provide precise detailed description of the activity’s location. UNIFORM: Identify the affiliation or group to which the observed entity belongs. TIME: Record the date and time of the observation. EQUIPMENT: List the equipment, weaponry, or tools associated with the observed group.

They have a list of targets and it’s unclear how long this will continue. It’s best to avoid public places since in public ICE does not need a warrant to detain someone. Proactively speak with your employer. Ask them to not allow ICE to access your workplace. Know your rights. Exercise your right to remain silent (this must be communicated to the agent out loud). Aside from sharing your name and date of birth do not share anything else. Do not open the door even if they insist unless they have a warrant signed by a judge. Do not sign any documents. You have the right to make a phone call. You have the right to be represented by a lawyer. Memorize a phone number in case of emergency. We believe ice may also target public transportation systems and public spaces in general. We do not want to spread fear but aim to protect one another. While this information comes from a reliable source, we hope it is only an alert and not a reality. Please share this information with others.
