When working, I feel so guilty feeling like I'm tricking "the wrong people." To operate among the levers of this system, empathy is a curse.

Because it is a zero-sum game, somebody will always be around to lose and they'll die because of it. I don't think that people should be hurt or killed just because of a bad bet.

Capitalism is a big, sociopathic, cruel game and it relies on tricking people into giving up parts of themselves. What is profit except lying to people about how much something is worth?

It does feel good to be on this side of a project instead of being behind several layers of directors/managers/account people, but the amount people need to be reminded/bullied into giving you the things that you need to do WHAT THEY PAID FOR is nuts.

I can see myself in their situation doing the same thing, but a designer could ghost me for weeks and I'd be super understanding - I do realize it's ridiculous to operate that way, though. Sticking up for myself is not my strong suit.
