Character IS plot. You don’t really know someone until you see the decisions they make under pressure. Plot gives us an opportunity see who your character is when their choices really matter. Do they save the child, or save themselves?

You CANNOT have a character arc without a PLOT. People are reluctant to change. It’s only through FORCING your characters through the most challenging situations in their lives that they will reassess their worldview. The plot is the ENGINE that forces people down the road of personal growth.

As a kid, I dreamt of MAKING MOVIES. I didn’t dream of sitting in GENERALS and DEVELOPMENT calls.
While I’m sad to see the conventions of old Hollywood changing (esp re: union power), I don’t feel it personally as a digital-first producer. I see the walls between creators and viewers coming down.
