People who enjoy this sort of thing should also check out Girt from Australia, it's great:

we should really have some sort of error code display instead of having to do trial and error

'able bodied cosplay' is so real

That's my point! People in this thread are implying that asking individuals to voluntarily wear a mask is the same thing as demanding 'universal masking'.

It would only be universal masking if everyone did so voluntarily, in which case there's surely no problem.

Oh, so you're asking everyone to wear oven mitts every time they go outside?
October 15, 2025 at 1:56 AM
The problem is that a substantial amount of transmission occurs before symptoms appear. This is a key point that many people on the left don't want to grapple with, because it makes things less convenient.

It's not purely performative unless you think masks don't work. You can show solidarity while engaging in effective action. You think picketing is purely performative?
October 15, 2025 at 12:42 AM
But how do you know when you're sick? It's very common for transmission to occur before symptoms appear.

And I think you're overstating what is usually being asked for - voluntary masking in places vulnerable people can't avoid.

You can just say 'no thanks', no need to strawman or pathologise
October 15, 2025 at 12:37 AM
Since you've the word-knower, when you say 'universal masking' do you take it to mean voluntary or mandated?

Because I don't see a problem with universal voluntary masking
October 15, 2025 at 12:02 AM
And if you exercise your freedom to wear a mask nowadays, the freedom-lovers tend to get real annoyed

Non-fiction tip: every paragraph should end with 'of course, this is just my opinion'.

Wild how it's essentially government policy to put 'people whose immunity to covid has waned' and 'people who think they currently have covid' in the same location, and then to also be like 'no need to wear a mask 💕'

Any zoomer who finds themselves talking to Noah Smith about erectile dysfunction has already demonstrated a severe lapse of judgement, and is thus not a credible source, ipso facto, I rest my case.

Describing this as a 'u-turn' is disgusting victim blaming

This is a great example of how social pressures, lack of testing, and the language we use lead to abandonment of perfectly reasonable mitigation measures.

Whenever someone says 'fully debunked' without citing or linking to the debunking, I am disinclined to believe them

I respect them giving reviewers a year or so to really get to grips with the game.

Shame about the exclusive pre-order bonuses though. I'll probably wait until the review embargo ends even if it means missing out on the Luminescent Swamp level.
August 22, 2025 at 12:27 AM
I still can't tell if the point here is 'things are broadly getting better, but social media is distorting that fact', or 'these high profile incidents rightly undermined an overly confident narrative'.

What if they're in the *same* car and you need to drive really fast so that the constant acceleration keeps them pinned back in their seat until you launch off a ramp and dive out at the last moment. Did you think of that

Can you imagine celebrating an endorsement from a group affiliated with an organisation that would later(!) go on to say something true that we disagree with?
