Years ago I very flukily won an omelette-making competition. This convinced me to try to get consistently good at making omelettes. Efforts have been inconsistent and they still go wrong sometimes, but I do still feel disproportionately proud when they go this right
A cheese and tomato omelette, folded into three. The tomatoes have caramelised a little and the cheese oozes from the centre. The omelette is on a white plate with a silver rim, which is set on a grey and white checked table cloth, alongside a fork.

I went back to the short story dispenser at Gare Du Nord! This one is ominously titled "Inheritance"
A strip of paper containing a short story ("Contemporary Fiction - General Audience"). The story is titled Inheritance and is by Susannah Cate. The first two paragraphs read: Joan feels remorse for having hated her toes most of her life. She inherited them from her grandmother, who hated them too. Her grandmother cried at the swimming pool on Joan's 11th birthday while her friends stood around her singing and dripping on the cake. At first Margaret, Joan's mother, was touched. Her mother's first grandchild was growing up. She squeezed her shoulder and smiled. But then the cake was cut and distributed, and Joan's grandmother was still weeping. Really, Mom, it's okay. Joany is still a little girl. That's when the shaking woman pointed to Joan's overlong toes, and then back to her own feet, concealed beneath brown mules. She's going to get bunions, she said loudly.

Looking forward to EA's new competitive wine drinking sim
Half a small glass of cold white wine (you can tell it's cold because condensation is gathering on the outside of the glass) on a wooden table. It's a stemmed glass,and a white logo is on the base of the glass. A close up of the logo on the base of the wine glass. It's the letters E and A under a crown-like symbol. The letters are close enough to merge slightly at the base. They are both sans serif capital letters. They look a lot like the EA games logo, but with a crown.

A pair of earrings. Each earring is made of three scale mail chains in a vertical row. The first is hot pink, the second gold, and the third blue (combining as the pansexual pride colours). They're all shiny but the gold is absolutely gleaming. I can pick out the details of my phone case reflected back from it.

Look how beautiful and round! Such good pheasants!
Two pheasants on a grass lawn, photographed through a window. The male, on the left is side-on, showing off his long tail. He's good and round, with lovely speckled feathers. The female is in face on, and is smaller and less colourful than her fancy man. They're looking for the bird seed my mother throws out in bucket loads every week, and probably also for acorns. There are orange roses on the windowsill, so these appear in the picture as well, in the foreground.

Here is a pheasant who came to say hello to us at breakfast this morning.

Apparently they really enjoy raisins and sultanas. Not sure how they feel about bacon rolls.
A male pheasant looking through a glass door and into my mother's conservatory. He has a large red wattle, a dark grey head, a white band around his neck, and red/brown feathers elsewhere. He's beautiful but very stupid. He has a call that sounds like a rusty sink. Two female pheasants (not in shot) hand further back, waiting to see if it's safe. The image quality isn't great sorry about that. I've had to zoom in a bit because if I get too close he runs away. The window is a little grubby, and he's framed by the white painted door frame (really must offer to repaint that next time I visit) and a table in the foreground.

...and b) I don't know when I'll next be back South. When someone's mum wants white pudding and she's caring for a son recovering from surgery, you don't just bring her a couple of slices. Right?

So I ring the butcher and order a whole one, which I just collected.

I'm going to need a bigger bag.
A while pudding. A cylinder about 6 cm in diameter and 40 cm long, encased in a sausage casing and full of oats and fat and spices. Basically a black pudding with no blood. It smells tremendous. It's also a lot bigger than any black pudding I've ever seen on sale. It's like a forearm, but not like my forearm which is much smaller. If I put it in the bag I was planning to take with me to Yorkshire I will have no space for anything else. I might need to buy an extra train ticket for it so it can have a seat.

Something about these sculptures reminds me of my cat

Back at the short story dispenser at Gare du Nord. This time I got one about a very clever dog.
The start of a short story on a long scroll (like a long receipt). The sorry is Pupthagoras the Wonder Dog by Jenny Moore. The visible text reads, Pupthagoras Barkemedes Brown was no ordinary dog. He was a woofety wonder-mutt with intelligent eyes and a head full of amazing ideas. Even his fleas were clever. While normal dogs ran around thinking normal dog thoughts like "What's that disgusting thing over there? I must stick my nose in it at once!" Pupthagoras was busy working out tricky math sums. He wrote perfect poems in his sleep and spoke fourteen different languages. Unfortunately, to human ears they all sounded the same: Bark, bark, barkety-bark. Pant pant bark. He knew the answers to all Finn's math homework and Mum and Dad's crossword clues. But it was no good trying to tell them. All they heard was, Woof, woof, woofety-woof. Pant pant woof. And when Pupthagoras asked them to enter him into the Cleverest Canine Contest, all they heard was, Bark, woof, gggggggrrrrrrrrrrrooooowl. The family never guessed there was a real life genius licking gravy drips up off the floor...

2. His own feet

Fair, tbh. Same.

Here's a gargoyle in Luxembourg. It's a mildly odd place, but worth visiting. They have a big thing about being allowed to be who they are, which makes sense if your history involves you being passed from empire to empire. Anyway, using this guy for memes.

Sappho. Lesbos. Shepherd lad. Yeah, not convinced. Astonishing work of sculpture though. Made my throat tighten.

Here's a wee guy I met at the Louvre. Not sure who it was who said that every museum gift shop should have a replica wee guy section, but they were right. This isn't even close to the weirdest wee guy I wanted a replica of.

Problem: if I sit on my sofa to play games on my laptop, my cat can't sit on my lap.

Solution: Steam deck?
