Makes me wonder: Should non-partisan elections like Minneapolis’ have non-DFL primaries too? Or is the real solution ranked-choice voting doing the work a primary normally would?

Exactly caucuses reward the most engaged (or inflexible) factions, not the median voter. And with a de facto one-party system, even a primary might just mirror internal DFL splits rather than broader preferences.

That’s a great point! Since it’s non-partisan, do you think the DFL endorsement still carries significant weight in the general election or do voters in Minneapolis tend to split from the party’s pick? I’m curious how much influence the caucus endorsement really has compared to a traditional primary
