It's still January. How is that possible?

My husband made it to Branchlands Food Lion today. Once he got out of our neighborhood, it was fine.

Same here.
He sounds like he'd fit in well in my neighborhood.

We're the house with the loud Dead or classic country on while gardening on weekends, so zero shade from here.

I have more than a few entertaining neighbors. I'm here for this adventure.

That cannot end well. Please keep us updated.

Crews here kept me up half the night as they loudly attempted to clear roads. I figured that was the price I'd pay to get out today but upon sunlight, I realized, that's not happening.
January 27, 2026 at 3:12 PM
Getting paid to drive a truck so it looks like he's 'plowing'.
January 27, 2026 at 2:53 PM
It also works better when sunlight has had a chance to soften the ice a bit as opposed to plowing at 11 pm when it's in the teens.

There was one coming through this morning. Kinda wanted to flag him down and tell him to come back in a few hours when the sun had time to thaw some stuff. Did we see a truck yesterday during daylight hours? Nope. Only after 8 pm when it was cold and solid ice.

Snow has been thrown onto previously cleared sidewalks, disrupting clean up efforts of residents so there's no where to walk a dog.
January 27, 2026 at 1:40 PM
One wonders how much more successful the attempts would have been had they not been working in such frigid conditions.
January 27, 2026 at 1:39 PM
Mine prefers to walk in the street because we have to climb over snow piles to get to the sidewalks and she hates them more than she hates the ice. I'm taking her pooping in the middle of the street as her statement on how she feels about it.

Watched another plow truck struggle on Rose Hill Drive, which is nowhere near clear. School ain't happening anytime soon.
January 27, 2026 at 1:02 AM
Maybe if the city had the streets cleared, people might be encouraged to get sidewalks clear.

The dog was slipping and sliding. She agrees with your assessment.
January 26, 2026 at 7:25 PM
I was going to take a stab at clearing our front walk (shoveled several times yesterday) but it's so solid, I need something to chip away at it. Decided to do a deep clean of the kitchen instead.
January 26, 2026 at 7:23 PM
I just tried walking the dog. Streets are thick with ice. It's melting in patches in sunlight, so that's good-ish? But walking in unbroken paths is HARD. You need to dig your heels down with every step.
January 26, 2026 at 7:22 PM
We once watched a garbage truck back up over and get stuck on top of a car parked on a city street. It was priceless entertainment.
January 26, 2026 at 7:19 PM
I'm so sorry
January 26, 2026 at 7:18 PM
Rose Hill Drive concurs.

Sour dough starter can be used to patch cement.
January 26, 2026 at 1:35 PM
It's a solid sheet of ice though.

He got himself out and came back from whence he came.
