Today is Ruby and Tamal’s birthday!! They got some new catnip toys and a cardboard box with a bow on it. They are the best cats in the world and I love them, even if I didn’t post here until 11pm. 🥰

Tonight at figure drawing, Mama Cass’s “Make Your Own Kind of Music” came up on the playlist, and I was catapulted back to watching Beautiful Thing at midnight in my parents’ kitchen. Next up was “Can’t Hardly Wait”, so here’s a bit of Niko Stratis’ book, which I’ve been thinking about all week.
I wonder this about the Replacements. Though I prom. ised myself I would never love this band, it was impossible to avoid because I had the same crush on Jennifer Love Hewitt that everyone else had in the late 1990s, and in 1998 I saw the movie Can't Hardly Wait. The right soundtrack at the right time can break the world in front of you, and while Can't Hardly Wait is a movie whose plot did not remain in my memory, the soundtrack lived in my car and in my head for decades to come.
