Finally took some time to upgrade my tiny studio! Been pondering building a wall easel for a while. And it doubles as a display!
Quite satisfied with the result, though a bit of paint on the beams might not be a bad idea 😅

Adding a few details digitally (log, woodpecker, and willow tit) to see how it works before painting it in, I was really surprised when I mirrored the painting. Original on the left, mirrored on the right. It feels like a breath of fresh air 😄

Putting the fur where it belongs! Finally got around to doing the fur on this elk. Still a way to go before everything's done!

Even though foxes are related to dogs, they have vertical pupils like a cat, which allows them greater vision at night. However, their sense of smell does not rival that of dogs. True or not, here's a couple of detailed studies from a red fox's eye and nose!

Fox head studies! As my next painting will involve foxes, I'm trying to deepen my understanding of how they're built, and to practice on some expressions. Doesn't hurt that this is also super interesting stuff!

The grind continues with these daily gestures. Comparing these to when I first started a few days ago is interesting, as the improvement is definitely there. Looking forward to the anatomy and construction, so these gestures can transform to proper animals.

Happy Friday!! As I've worked on my wildlife commission, I've realized I want to truly understand how animals work. So, I've decided to 'restart' my approach to art, and daily gestures are now on the agenda before I soon will begin on anatomy and construction.

Going in with a small nr 1 rounded synthetic on a dry layer really helped forming those trees!
Now I will wait for this to dry before starting the 2nd layer on the bull elk and the log - and then details will come after!

After doing the 2nd layer on the back and midground, I realized the tree directly behind the bull elk look like some cactus-spruce abomination 😂 these trees definitely need a makeover next session! I am pleased with the depth however.

Here are two of my favorite oil paintings, and B isn't even completed yet!
A is based on the Norwegian west, while B is an in-progress wildlife commission. It's been a very enjoyable experience so far.

Slowly but surely getting some progress on this piece. With the 2nd layer on the sky now done, it needs to dry before starting on the distant hills and trees. I can highly recommend the Skyrim OST playing in the background while painting 🤓
