Bottom line: By any objective measure, medical transition is not dangerous—it’s one of the safest, most effective procedures in all of medicine. The real reason there’s so much opposition is that it just freaks out a lot of cis people and they scramble for some way to rationalize their revulsion.

•Less than 1% of patients regret medical transition. That’s an *absurdly* low regret rate—compare to (cis) breast augmentation at 5-9%, knee replacement at 6-30%, bariatric surgery at 19%, having children at 6%, getting a tattoo at 16%.

•The most recent research suggests that fertility often returns after stopping HRT for several months. Patients are nonetheless repeatedly warned about the impact and counseled to consider cryopreservation. I don’t know White’s story, but I’m guessing she now regrets discounting those warnings.

The truth about HRT is:

•HRT gives you exactly the same clotting and cancer risks as a cis person of the gender you’re transitioning to.

•Difficult-to-reverse physical effects don’t start for months; a cis person who takes HRT will feel bad mental health effects long before that and can just stop.

Also, prosecuting a senator for utter bullshit cannot possibly backfire in the slightest. It’s not like senators have any power or influence, after all.

It’s not that they couldn’t have put legs on the avatars; it’s that they couldn’t have made their movements match the user’s real legs because the VR hardware didn’t track lower body movement.
