Under Jim Crow, business leaders sometimes complained that the system of separate bathrooms, waterfountains, and waiting rooms was losing money. But they were afraid of white supremacist terrorists (and their fans in legislatures) so they lost money to keep them happy.
I think businesses’ willingness to lose money for the sake of bigotry gets underestimated by a lot of people
