They’d spent the rest of the afternoon in the library, soon falling asleep. That was how Narcissa, Theo and Harry had found them.
Lucius clutching onto Cassiopeia, Theo and Harry’s heart broke for their goddaughter.

“It’s not fair, they should be here.” Cassiopeia sobbed, into Lucius’ robes.

“They may not be here physically, but your mama and papa are here.” Lucius said, tapping her chest where her heart was. “And they will be with you where ever you may go.”

“Oh my star, what’s wrong?” Her grandfather asked as he wrapped her in a hug, Lucius noticed the letter on the table and understood why.

“Oh my love.” Lucius said softly, consoling his precious star, feeling his heart break all over again. Grief consuming them both.

This was going to be her first year at Hogwarts, but it hurt because her parents weren’t there with her.
Yes she had her grandparents, her aunts and uncles, but this was a moment that was supposed to be shared with her parents.
She heard the door open and close.

Cassiopeia sat in the library with her Hogwarts letter sitting on the table. She was wrapped in her Papa’s quidditch jersey, and she had her Mama’s favourite book hugged tightly to her chest. These were only a few things she’d allowed herself before she’d boxed their things away.

And that’s how Hermione had found them, cuddled in Cassiopeia’s bed fast asleep. Hermione made sure all the lights were switched off, enlarging the bed just enough for her to squeeze on with her little family.

“Maybe I shouldn’t listen to Aunty Moons bedtime stories anymore.” Cassiopeia said softly, Draco snorted at that comment. Cassiopeia giggled with her father and asked if he could sing her back to sleep.

He felt Cassiopeia wake with a fright and clench onto his shirt.
“You were having a nightmare.” Draco said softly, as he felt her relax “You’ll always be safe with me my star.” He said into the riot of curls she’d inherited from her mother.

He lightly stroked her hair, while quietly humming the lullaby that Narcissa had taught him when his star was a baby.

Hermione had told him to be gentle when waking someone from a nightmare, making sure that they were awaken as gently as possible.

Draco opened the door and found his star with tears running down her cheeks, eyes closed tangled in the sheets.

As gently as possible Draco untangled Cassiopeia from her sheets and got into bed with her laying on her on his chest.

He wouldn’t be here, in their cottage with their little family.

Unlike most of their friends, after the war Draco and Hermione had taken the time for themselves. To heal and grow before starting their family and bringing a child into the world.

Placing his book down, Draco made his way down to his little stars room.
