I called this shit at the time. It kinda gave the game away when the “save the children” folks started fighting tooth and nail to prevent children from being taught what sexual abuse is and how to describe it to an adult in clear language.

Creationism and Dispensationalism are both based on incredibly shallow and surface level readings of scripture that completely miss the forest for the trees in favor of a blunt and transparently self serving interpretation of scripture.

So many of the central beliefs of American Christian Fundamentalists are just completely divorced from the actual text of the bible and traditions that have sought to translate and interpret scripture.

It’s the same way that despite Protestantism starting out as a movement to democratize the priesthood and make scripture more accessible to the common people so many Protestants just blindly follow what every religious authority says. Even when it has no basis in scripture.

There’s something genuinely fascinating to me about how despite Protestantism starting out as a restorationist fundamentalist religion the average American Protestant’s religion is more rooted in Biblical Fan-fiction than Scripture.
