Just came back from the US after spending a week learning everything about Public Choice from the GMU Public Choice theorists themselves ❤️ really grateful for the opportunity to attend a conference in honour of prof Buchanan’s work which has been going on for more than 40 years!

Lots of economists often view ML as only for prediction, but it can do so much more. This paper introduces efficient regression adjustment methods that minimize variance, blending ML with classic econometric tools to enhance causal inference and experimental design s3.amazonaws.com/fieldexperim...

Gabriel’s (on the JM) work highlights a key insight: inflation taxes cash-based transactions. When informal goods are hard to replace, households hold more cash instead of interest-earning savings. This weakens credit for formal firms, driving up informality and hurting capital www.gabrieldevoto.com
