They want to do old world European blood and soil nationalism but they know they can't possibly do that without alienating like 80% of the country, so they try to jam a square peg in a round hole with shit like this. Why even bother with this idea when you're going to water it down like this?

Idk if it’s comforting at all, but James C. Scott has pointed out that people like this have existed for awhile now. But before they were tech people, they were scientific managers, state planners, and city planners. The difference today is that people in power believe their bullshit.

For anyone with lingering doubts about just how unbelievably depraved, inhuman, and disgustingly cruel CBPs culture is, this book is a good first look through the window.

The idea that there are unaccompanied children in these peoples custody would be too dark to entertain if it wasn't so important

What bugs the FUCK out of me is that the social science literature HAS THE ANSWERS TO THESE QUESTIONS. We KNOW the govt has a role in in health (govt payers), we KNOW how to lower costs (compulsory licensing, govt funded R&D). The problem is that our leaders have NEVER had the will to execute this

We have yet to even reach the “I don’t really like it but I’m doing it anyway” stage given the ironclad silence from military personnel thus far. This movie is gonna become so much more relevant to Americans very soon unless there’s a course correction.

This is all to say, I wonder how much this very popular video game franchise which was geared towards militaristic, perhaps conservatively inclined young men who have now grown to voting age has influenced numbers like this. I have a strong feeling that it isn't totally insignificant.

Throughout the series, Russians are depicted as a tenacious, sacrificing, martial people, which to the target audience of the franchise (i.e. me), were traits to be admired, and the series did send me down a rabbit hole of legitimate admiration for Russian military history.

Despite being cast as villains in most of the games, there was always some plot element where there were good and bad Russians. In CoD4, which depicts a civil war in Russia, loyalist Russians assist the player throughout the plot against ultranationalist rebels, even saving the player at the finale.

Does anyone else feel like an unsung source of Russian soft power was the Call of Duty franchise, especially in the 2000's? As a conservative leaning teenage boy who was into FPS games back then, seeing the heroic depiction of the Soviet defense of Stalingrad was what made me aware of RU history
