I'm just a simple swamp child trying to learn manners.

Seriously I try very hard not to be tedious and off-putting but look we all fall short of our goals sometimes
sorry

TNG dialogue cares nothing for character limits, as long as Brent can talk fast enough

Detail for honesty. No one will ever look at it this closely again.

Calling it done. Looks okay enough from several angles. My biggest enemy is me trying to do a little more and screwing it up, so.

Some lacquer will hopefully even out the sheen of the whole panel.

I'll let this dry and do some not blending and texturing. Hrmm.

Hmm. Hrrmmm.

More magic dust
November 17, 2025 at 9:09 PM
Seems... okay? for a base color. I guess.

First up, an even tone to cover the damaged area. I mix sanding dust in because I am guided by intuition and it is magic.

Okay, let's get started. Key to remember: I do not have any idea what I'm doing

Opportunities to use this coming up quickly

One very notable oopsie. The rest looks really good, but I don't think I can feel good about it unless I can dial in the grain painting.
November 14, 2025 at 8:07 PM
Fuck

I mean, it happens. Going to work on grain painting again I guess.

can I help you

I'm particularly pleased with the sanding dust fills. The cracks are feeling stable and I don't expect they'll be a point of failure. With some more care in the finishing process, they should even blend in more in terms of texture and sheen.

Have to stop for the day but I'm feeling good. Old on top, cleaned on bottom.

Some of the hide glue did end up failing around the edges here and some small shards of veneer flecked off. The repair shows what I was concerned about with the new glue penetrating the pores of the veneer. Hopefully with very gentle sanding, oiling, then waxing, I can blend it in.

POV: you're just a little guy getting their car back from the mechanic

Very carefully add low viscosity CA glue in and immediately wipe away the excess. I'll take a walk then do a very light sanding to see where we're at.
November 13, 2025 at 7:32 PM
Got some sanding dust, mixed a few drops of water to make a loose paste, and worked it into the crack.
November 13, 2025 at 7:30 PM
I'm attempting to address this cracked veneer. I'm starting conservative and if that doesn't look good, I'll get a little more aggressive. Messing this veneer up isn't something I can really recover from, so we take this in steps.
