Unserious take: Maybe they hope to engineer such a thorough collapse that there won't be any cohesive society left to prosecute them, and then set up shop as local warlords in inner Siberia?

Just like how the world's largest country got so large because its neighbours kept squatting on their land? Once again prez proves he's the true Avant Garde thinker!

What is that last caveat supposed to mean? Is it a way of saying that everything bad that happens in Russia is because of "traitors" without openly insinuating that anything could possibly be bad in Russia?

If so that's one of the most Authoritarian Mouthpiece things I've ever seen!

I don't have access to it either, but going by the abstract, it's more about trying to describe how to fit attention into our current economic models. And such models are important for e.g. national budgets and legislation.

Common People starts playing, except it's on otamatone, and the singer is a chipmunk on helium.

Wonder of his henchmen will talk him down from the idea or if it'll entrench in his mind the moment media starts asking him about it?

Maybe the way to avoid WW3 is to plant so many simultaneous invasion goals in his mind that it overloads and crashes... 🤔

The usual stereotype is that Swedes and Danes hate eachother, having the world record for the most watts fought between two countries and all, and I wouldn't put it past an American studio to misattribute that to Norwegians instead since we all tend to look the same to you.

Will it work? I'm highly sceptic, but I won't write it off outright before I've seen it in action.

My thought as well. Russia has been using thermal ponchos for some time now to evade detection by long range surveillance drones during infiltration missions. This is probably an attempt to overcome limitations with the ponchos being open around the face and flapping around the feet when walking.

All in all, I estimate the total amount of military logistics used up during Russia's entire war to be less than one day of civilian loading.
January 14, 2026 at 9:02 AM
Going by the Oryx loss list and liberal applications of rounding, the total weight of all documented losses is about 0,4 Mtons. If we assume 20% of all losses remain undocumented, that pushed to 0,5 Mtons.

The amount of active equipment is smaller, maybe 0,2 Mtons.
January 14, 2026 at 9:02 AM
To put things into perspective, one number says Russia fires about 3M artillery shells per year. If each shell weighs 40 kg, that's about 0,01 Mtons/month. Meanwhile, the smallest number present in the monthly losing report is 0,1 Mtons.

... that wind power should be banned because of "security concerns" is just brain dead. /end
January 12, 2026 at 11:19 PM
The most straightforward solution to all this is to just deploy some radars BEYOND the wind farms, and there is a serious discussion to be had regarding to what extent the value gained from wind farms can/should be used to offset the impacts on defence against airborne threats, but arguing... 5/

... opaque to radar. Anything behind the wind farm should still give off its own echo with a different travel time compared to the wind turbines, and the turbines should only block some fraction of the signal, so for most of the part it should still be detectable.

It's more like a... 3/

I haven't worked directly with radars myself, only adjacent to people who did, so everything from here on is guesswork, but I don't think the above means wind farms are... 2/

Correct. Because everything airborne needs to move fast to stay aloft, air radars use the doppler effect to filter out echoes from anything that isn't moving, thereby making it much easier to spot flying targets. Wind turbine blades are however constantly moving and at all different speeds... 1/
